Brief Description of Duties

This is a management and confidential leadership position reporting to the Director of the Office for TRIO and College Preparatory Programs.  This position serves as an integral member of the University’s TRIO Programs and will provide innovative and strategic leadership to the Director of the TRIO Programs.  The position oversees the management, planning, administration, and evaluation of students participating in the University’s Upward Bound Program which serves designated schools within the District of Columbia. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Attends meetings with the appropriate University of the District of Columbia and public administrators, per the Directors request.
 
2. Monitor program for adequacy of coverage and presentations and adherence to program policies and procedures.
 
3. Develop and publish program documents.  Assist with writing program reports and grant applications.
 
4. Schedules and coordinates program seminars, workshops, and other services.  Schedule and conduct peer/tutor orientation and in-service activities.
 
5. Schedule and provides for the administration of appropriate competitive tests for students in the area of mathematics, and language skills for the purpose of participant selection.
 
6. Responsible for identifying and acquiring resources necessary for program success (equipment, personnel, facilities, etc.).
 
7. Serves as an academic and career program advisor to program participants.  Assist project staff in conducting SAT/ACT, financial aid, and college admissions workshops.
 
8. Develops and establishes a computerized database for program participants for the purpose of tracking program participants.
 
9. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of the TRIO Programs.
 
10. Prepares weekly reports and summaries for all attendees

Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in subject area, previous experience teaching diverse public school students; proficient with technology; must be previous TRIO participant or low income and first generation and have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronted by the project’s target population.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
