Brief Description of
DutiesThe University of the District of Columbia is seeking a visiting faculty member for the 2015-2016 academic year to oversee the development of it co-requisite remediation program. The successful candidate will provide support for the new program course design by working with collaboratively with faculty in the mathematics department to implement this program. This position will require a faculty member who is able train other faculty to teach in these new course configurations and analyze data related to the results of the program.
 
In the co-requisite remediation program, qualified students will take a constructed developmental math and a college level math course (Intermediate Algebra) course or a combination Intro Algebra and a General College Math I course.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach four (4) courses per semester;
  2. Develop and teach appropriate online courses and has experience with instructional technology;
  3. Serve on at least two College committees;
  4. Teach in the day and evening sections as well as weekends at any campus location;
  5. Participate in curriculum development and revision;
  6. Work closely with faculty to model instructional strategies, develop, modify lessons and related assessments and provide regular reports on the implementation of the program;
  7. Recommend selection of textbooks;
  8. Assist in the development of assessing student learning at the course and program levels;
  9. Facilitate the development of training sessions that will provide faculty members in the department with strategies that focus on the use of successful, evidence-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners such as with those used with limited English proficiency or disabilities;
  10. Assist with the advising of students.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in Education in Curriculum and Instruction or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree in mathematics or at least 18 graduate credits in mathematics is preferred.
  • A strong background in Mathematics Education is required.  Prior experience with teacher preparation or education is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience at the community college level in education and mathematics courses is required.
  • The applicant must possess experience in using computer software to facilitate independent student learning.
  • The use of technology and online teaching to enhance classroom teaching and student learning is also required.
