Brief Description of Duties

The Human Resources Recruitment Assistant administers and coordinates staffing and recruitment activities, and assists in developing, recommending, establishing and communicating human resources services, programs and procedures which recognize and respond to the different needs and concerns of assigned units.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Administers and coordinates staffing and recruitment activities.
2. Assists in the university’s recruitment and placement services. Provides advice to managing supervisors on matters relating to recruitment and placement activities.
3. Interfaces with classification/compensation, departments/units to ensure the proper classification of positions.
4. Posts new job openings. 
5. Answers inquiries from managers and employees on matters pertaining to recruitment and employment.
6. Refers the most suitable candidates to the managing supervisor for consideration, pointing out those attributes that make selected candidates more able to fulfill the needs of the particular vacancy.
7. Conducts reference checks on prospective employees.
8. Sets up and maintains employee official personnel files.  Orientates new employees, making certain that all necessary forms are completed correctly, answers questions relating to appointments or forms.
9. Consults with units on Human Resources issues such as not to exceed appointments.
10. Prepares and develops communication and education materials as it relates to new hires and onboarding.

OTHER DUTIES:
 

  1. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1.Associates Degree.
2.Three years of progressively responsible staffing experience.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
