Brief Description of
DutiesThis position is located in the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences at the University of the District of Columbia. The principal purpose of the position is to portray architectural ideas and information through drawings and supplying information needed to fabricate, construct, assemble, maintain, repair, install and procure equipment and facilities. Work is performed with immediate supervision in carrying out assignments.  The incumbent will report all progress of work directly to the supervisor.                                                                                                                                         
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
                                                                       

  1. In the analysis of existing housing or housing proposed for construction, applies practical knowledge of construction techniques and procedures, good housing design, and a detailed knowledge of agency requirements and regulations.
  2. After consultation with the supervisor, recommends acceptance or rejection of mortgage insurance for housing after analysis of drawings and specifications and/or inspections.
  3. Under the direction of the supervisor, provides information on the agency’s requirements or procedures to architect-engineer firms, construction contractors, builders, lending agencies and others.
  4. After consultation with the supervisor, confers with manufacturers, municipal and state officials, and representatives of other government agencies both to give and obtain information on problems affecting the agency’s programs and operations.
  5. Prepares cost estimates from construction documents and specifications for review by the supervisor.
 
OTHER DUTIES:
 
  1. Performs construction administration to clients sponsored in the grant as assigned by the supervisor.
  2. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
 

  1. Four year degree in Architecture.
  2. Three to five years experience in field.
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:                                                                                      
 
  1. Must be knowledgeable of design principals, local and national building codes and ordinances.
  2. Must have practical knowledge of equipment and systems of field of architecture.
  3. Must have ability to make mathematical computations using standardized tables and formulas.
  4. Must have knowledgeable of the different types of housing designs; the construction, the materials and methods of construction.
  5. Must have the ability to analyze and correct drawings and specifications, and to make recommendations with respect to design, planning arrangement and structural features.
  6. Must have the ability to perform surveillance inspections for insuring compliance with standards.
  7. Must have knowledgeable of the construction of appurtenances and adjuncts, such as water and sewer systems, streets, etc.
  8. Must have ability to effectively maintain person to person activities with contractors to insure that work gets accomplished in a professional manner.

Condition of Employment:  This is a sponsored program appointment. The duration of this appointment is subject to grant fund availability.
