Brief Description of Duties
The Project Coordinator for Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) & Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-ED) in the areas of nutrition education, food safety, resource Management, and program outreach.  Incumbent is responsible for planning and coordinating classes for low income individuals and families within the District of Columbia. The EFNEP & SNAP-ED Project Coordinator has the responsibility for tracking all teaching activities and participants and administering all evaluation instruments. The incumbent is required to participate in orientation training, professional development, and self-study to develop and improve knowledge of the subject matter. The EFNEP & SNAP-ED Coordinator will work collaboratively with the other EFNEP & SNAP-ED staff.  The incumbent must be a team player, work effectively and efficiently with diverse internal and external constituencies, perform all duties with a high degree of efficiency, communicate effectively, work well under pressure and be familiar (or familiarize themselves) with the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of CAUSES, UDC, and program sponsors

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teaches series of classes from EFNEP & SNAP-ED Curricula and other approved  educational materials,  2) Recruit clients to maintain caseload, 3)Apply group teaching as a major delivery method; 4) Work toward increasing the number of participants enrolled, 5) Use available resources to evaluate progress of participants, 6) Refine techniques of recruiting and working with the groups that will encourage retention and motivation to modify behaviors, 7) Maintain continuous participation by a reasonable number of  EFNEP & SNAP-Ed clients.
  2. Coordinates and implements the series of EFNEP & SNAP-ED classes throughout the District of Columbia.
  3. Holds and attends meetings and conferences as needed to assist the Project Specialist and volunteers in implementing EFNEP/SNAP-EDand its specific projects.
  4. Cooperates with Project Specialist in developing the team approach to program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  5. Maintains effective working relationship with other extension staff (internally and externally), to provide knowledge of new technology, best practices, and evidence-based information as well as assistance in programming methods and procedures.
  6. Provides leadership for the development and implementation of advisory and program committees.
  7. Prepares reports for submission to the Project Specialist and Director of the Center for Nutrition, Diet and Health.
  8. Maintains current professional competence through participation in SNAP-ED, EFNEP, CNDH, and CAUSES staff development programs and opportunities and meetings sponsored by professional organizations.
  9. Cooperates with other program units in planning and implementing interdisciplinary programs.
  10. Acts as a liaison between project specialist and to media to promote EFNEP & SNAP-ED in print and on broadcast outlets.
  11. Maintains records reflecting the number of residence served monthly.
  12. Networks with the District of Columbia schools and agencies to conduct EFNEP & SNAP-ED activities.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred in a related focus area of the position, granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university.
  2. One (1) year experience working with individuals who come from low socio-economic backgrounds.
  3.  A valid driver’s license and vehicle preferred to travel within the city for classes.
  4. A proven commitment to continuous improvement and to proactive, outcomes oriented work in meeting the responsibilities and duties outlined in the position description.
 
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
  1. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with University officials, officials from other agencies, colleagues and peers and the general public.
  2. Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of various Federal and District agencies providing grant funding to the unit, or the ability to acquire such knowledge rapidly.
  3. Knowledge in one or more extension program subject matter areas.
  4. Knowledge of organization, operation, philosophy and objectives of the program.
  5. Knowledge of the social economic and cultural factors affecting the CES program.
  6. Ability to deal with the principals and techniques of the extension education.
  7. Ability to improvise when necessary materials are not available.
  8. Ability to speak and write clearly and communicate ideas effectively.
  9. A genuine interest in people and demonstrate an ability to teach, relate to, and work effectively with people from diverse communities.
  10.  Ability to work as a part of a team.
  11.  Ability to contribute data to the monthly and annual reports for the SNAP-Ed program and CNDH Unit   reflecting your contributions to the community.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
