Brief Description of Duties 

The incumbent functions as the Student Success Coordinator in the Division of Student Success and Development and reports to the Assistant Vice President of Student Success or their designee. The Student Success Coordinator is a critical managerial role in supervising the Student Achievement Center Staff, including support programs such as Supplemental Instruction, First Year/Transfer Experience, Skill-based Workshops and Writing Seminars. The Coordinator researches and implements innovative research-based programming that helps foster student success university-wide. This position supports an innovative and holistic approach to providing students with the assistance, guidance and resources necessary to be successful.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


1. Provide academic and student support services to increase retention and persistence. 
2. Partnering with Enrollment Management and university departments to develop and maintain first year/transfer services and event programming and resources.
3. Assess and implement best practices/programming to support first year and transfer students
4. Explaining transfer policies and procedures to students, faculty, and staff, as well as possessing a robust knowledge of the university general education and degree requirements
5. Staying current on local and national transfer trends in order to maintain excellent first year/transfer services
6. Assesses the needs of students through analyses of internal university reports, faculty feedback of student performance and input from students seeking support services. 
7. Market programs and services and monitor/track student participation. 
8. Develop and maintain close working relationships with academic departments and divisions within the college. 
9. Develop assessment and evaluation tools to track and gage the impact of implemented programming on student learning, engagement and retention with the Assistant Vice President of Student Success or their designee. 
10. Manage the Student Achievement Center, as well as assist the Assistant Vice President of Student Success in managing the Student Success Centers. 
11. Completes and submits grant proposals to secure funding for program implementation and continuation. 
12. Assist in managing and providing training on the electronic student success platforms such as, but not limited to EAB and Degree Works.

Minimum Job Requirements

  1. A Master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited academic institution in Student Services, Education , Counseling, Behavioral or Social Science Education or a closely related field.
  2. A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a related field.
  3. Demonstrable evidence of the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators and a diverse student population.
  4. Proficient in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office, and other related software packages.
  5. Excellent communication leadership and relationship building skills required.
Required Competencies
  1. The ability to effectively communicate with a diverse student population via various technological modalities
  2. Knowledge of District of University of the District of Columbia academic procedures is preferred.
  3. The position requires the ability to deal with all developmental levels of students, as well as parents, using empathy and understanding, in a student and customer-centered environment.
  4. Incumbents are expected to possess extensive knowledge about academic programs, policies and procedures, and student support services.

Employment Benefits: Depending upon length of appointment, selectee may or may not be eligible for full benefits such as health and life insurance, annual (vacation) and sick leave and will be covered under the University of the District of Columbia's retirement plan (TIAA-CREF).
