Brief Description of Duties
- Provides administrative/management oversight of the Aviation Maintenance program
- Ensures ongoing compliance with FAA regulations, including updates of curriculum guide and operations manual; meets with FAA officials on an as-needed basis or when required by the federal agency
- Teaches related courses
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of full- and part-faculty
- Supervises full-and part-time faculty and assigns courses to instructors each semester and summer session
- Flexibility to teach in the day; evening courses may be offered
- Participates in curriculum development and revision to ensure course material is up-to date and reflects changes in the professional field, per FAA standards
- Ensures instructional materials, including engines and other hardware, are well-maintained and operational
- Ensures Hangar #2 facilities are clean and well-maintained
- Provides inputs into the recommendation and the selection of textbooks
- Familiarity with and conducts assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program levels
- Assists with the advising of student majors
- Answers student inquiries (emails and voice mail messages) in a timely manner
- Conducts inventory of instructional materials once per semester.
- Ensures students conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times and complies with FAA and College policies.
- Serves on at least one College-wide committee
- Other duties as assigned
- Must have current FAA certification in Aviation Maintenance and preferably three or more years of professional experience in the field.
- A Bachelor’s degree in this or a related field is preferred; to be considered for Assistant Professor a Bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least three or more years of experience teaching the subject matter is preferable.
- An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial contract; and
- At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including two (2) years in an institution of higher education. Community College experience preferred.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.
Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
