Description

The University of the District of Columbia is seeking a qualified candidate for a position in Music Theory and Piano with additional responsibilities in Music History and Literature, and other courses according to the ability of the applicant and needs of the department.

Pay Plan, Series & Grade: Commensurate with rank and experience

Salary Range: Assistant $41,722- $65,838; Associate: $51,238- $85,074

Brief Description of Duties

  1. Teach undergraduate courses in music theory, analysis, orchestration/arranging and aural skills;
  2. Teach applied instruction for piano majors and secondary piano for the non-piano majors;
  3. Accompanist for choral ensembles;
  4. Other duties may include teaching undergraduate courses in music history and literature;
  5. Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment;
  6. Participate in curriculum review, assessment and interdisciplinary programs or projects;
  7. Maintain a productive program of research/creative activity and strong professional engagement;
  8. Provide academic advisement and mentoring;
  9. Participate in outreach and recruitment activities;
  10. Provide service to the University, College, Division, Program and Profession

Required Qualifications

  1. Graduate degree in music theory, composition or piano (with preference given to doctorate) and/or equivalent professional experience at least equivalent to those required for a graduate degree in music;
  2. Accomplished keyboard skills;
  3. Knowledge of a broad spectrum of music including music of the African Diaspora and global music traditions.
  4. Experience with current and innovative uses of technology in the classroom and in the delivery of course content;
  5. Demonstrated leadership, administrative and organizational abilities;
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Candidates who have post-secondary teaching experience
  2. Evidence of outreach and recruitment activities
