The Media Technician, under the general supervision of the Information Technology Specialist Supervisor will perform work in one or more units of the Media Access Services department to provide technical support and assistance to patrons.
 
The successful candidate will be required to work evenings during the weekday and weekends on Saturdays on a rotating schedule.
                                                                                                                                               
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                                  

  • Responsible for opening and closing facilities.
  • Responsible for operating all formats of audio video equipment with a high level of skill and proficiency.
  • Recommends changes in procedures based on experience with patrons.
  • Assists patrons with a variety of media equipment such as, but not limited to, audio and video recording/playback equipment, projectors, and laptop/desktop computers and peripherals.
  • Performs basic maintenance of audio/video, printing, and copying equipment and ensures equipment is operating normally at all times.
  • Instructs student aids and other technicians on tasks and procedures of the unit.
  • Charges and discharges materials utilizing our own Voyager Circulation system.
  • Performs delivery equipment setup and pickup of media equipment used in classrooms and auditoriums spaces.
  • Assists with maintaining inventory of the unit and the ordering of materials and supplies.
  • Searches, shelves, shifts, and sorts materials based on the Library of Congress classification.
  • Informs patrons of LRD procedures and regulations and enforces policies when needed.
  • Assist in weeding collections.
  • Required to work some evenings and Saturdays as a part of the normal work schedule.
OTHER DUTIES:
  • Provides directional information to patrons.
 
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • Candidates should be proficient in use of laptop and desktop computers using the Microsoft Windows operating system.
  • Experience and skill in the operation and maintenance of audio/video equipment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Candidate must have two-three years of experience as a Media Technician.
  • Preferred degree in Media/Audio Visual related fields.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFSCME local 2087 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
