Brief Description of Duties

    • Resides in residential facility with students and serves as point of contact between residential support operations (Archstone staff), and University residence life staff /  student occupants.
    • Available to students after official university hours (after 5pm on weekdays and continuously on weekends).
    • Serves as UDC staff member on call 24/7 to respond to student resident crisis and issues.
    • Maintains a minimum of 15 hours of office duty weekly in the residential facility.
    • Manages system of student rounds and safety checks for students in residential facility.
    • Schedules programming efforts with various divisions at the University for presentation in the evenings at the residential facility.
    • Trains residential staff to support student development in residential facility.
    • Evaluates potential of sites to determine the feasibility for using the site for affordable housing,
    • Establishes a financing plan for student affordability with the assistance of the Vice President of Student Affairs and Director of Financial Aid, and reports upon pre-development, construction, and permanent financing for new student housing educational initiatives.  Establishes and manages budgets for each funding source.
    • Coordinates the hiring of the student mentors and advisors for student occupants.
    • Offers comprehensive retention and co-curricular programming offerings for student occupants.
    • Builds all financial tables and tracks all resident students via Banner housing module.
    • Prepares for and makes public presentations related to the student housing project and educational initiatives.
    • Monitors project finances in conjunction with the Vice President of Student Affairs and the Office of Facilities and Real Estate, takes responsibility for establishing and updating total project budget.
    • In coordination with the Property Management for the apartments, assists as necessary with initial rent-up and/or sales activities.
    • Provides technical support and participates in training of other development staff members.
    • Manages project close-out activities.
    • Provides support, leadership, and supervision to the units reporting to this position in order to ensure each unit is well run according to best professional practices.
    • Takes a leadership role in enhancing student services and in the development of strong and effective collaborations between the units in each area in order to increase student engagement and residential learning.
    •  Participates on committees within each area that supports such collaborations and/or services the welfare of students in order to ensure effective and efficient delivery of programs and services.

    Required Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Student Development, Counseling or a related field of study 
    • At least five (5) years experience in area of university student housing/residence life

    Condition of Employment:  This is a sponsored program appointment. The duration of this appointment is subject to the availability of grant funds.

    Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

    Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

    Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
