Assists the Director of the Student Center and the Vice President for Student Affairs in the overall management of the Student Center’s operations, functions and programs. Provides a student centered atmosphere that fosters social interaction among students, faculty, and the greater metropolitan community. Provides a large array of enriching and entertaining community experiences.

Salary Range: $59,661-$68,964

Brief Description of Duties

  • Assists in the administration of the 24/7 UDC Student Center operations.
  • Oversees event coordination by administering facility reservations and logistical support to programs, events and conferences emphasizing customer service. Applies and interpret policies regarding use. Works to meet revenue targets for events and activities. Provide assessment of event support.
  • Serves as project lead to integrate the operation of EMS, the University's scheduling package.
  • Works closely with Student Life, and the academic community in coordinating elements of event programming, signage, accessibility and office assignment and stewardship.
  • Works with students, faculty, staff and guests to understand needs, assess performance and continually improve service.
  • Works with the Office of Public Safety to ensure building safety and responsible operating practices. Anticipates and plans for crisis prevention, intervention and emergency response.
  • Maintains standards of cleanliness and presentation. Acts as a liaison with Facilities Management to provide functional supervision and coordinate housekeeping, maintenance and repairs to maintain the Lead platinum status.
  • Assists to provide leadership for long-term facility design, renovation, preventative maintenance and/or repair for projects. Oversees project management and ensure quality of work undertaken.
  • Utilizes technology to support the planning, implementation and on-going evaluation of Student Center programs. Maintains methods of measurement of the various initiatives and work efforts.  Maintains a system for measurement of customer satisfaction by which feedback can be tracked and measured to help enable the highest levels of customer satisfaction for the services performed.
  • Assists with research by assessing changing student demographics and campus trends to support program design.
  • Develops and implements Student Center policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student and classified staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in higher education community service, organization, development, event planning, debating, leadership, program evaluation and volunteerism.
  • Three (3) years supervisory or lead experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of conference, reservations and event services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to listen, clearly articulate thoughts/directions/expectations and develop reports/proposals and make presentations.
  • Knowledge of best practices and trends related to student centers/unions, student affairs, retail operations, and higher education administration.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
