Brief Description of Duties

  1. ​Sets-up, adjusts, operations, and maintains a two-color offset press to print two-color and multicolor maps and charts involving line work, screen tints, and halftones in various color combinations with registration requirements ranging from close to hairline with precise color values.  The incumbent programs duplicating machine to reproduce handwritten or typewritten documents.
  2. Overprints corrections and additional information onto previously printed but unissued maps and charts.
  3. Performs a variety of maintenance work on the machines such as assisting in washing rollewrs, replacing lamps and cleaning presses and auxiliary equipment by wiping off dust and grease.  In addition, assures that the machine is supplied with toner and developer and replenishes stock supply as required.
  4. Performs routine maintenance checks on all machines and equipment assigned to the printing, reproduction and photocopying section.  He/she also assists with coordinating the activities of the Print Production Unit.
  5. Reproduces on various duplication machines, all paper(s), brochures, pamphlets, business cards and other documents submitted for reproduction.
  6. Assists with supervising student workers in the Print Production Unit and with the development of training modules for users of print and duplication machines.
  7. Ensures that supplies are available for printing orders.
  8. Contacts and provides information to vendors regarding the repair of machinery.
  9. Prioritizes requests as they are received and communicates the status of the job requests to users.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  11. Reviews job specifications for feature coverage, color, and registration requirements to determine the press setup and the sequence of colors to be printed. Also, performs setups and adjustments.
  12. Adjusts and loads feed Mechanisms.
  13. Measures stock, blanket and plate with a micrometer to determine the amount of packing necessary.
  14. Checks press plates to determine that they are in running condition and will yield quality images.
  15. Installs plates and blankets with proper packing.
  16. Adjusts positioning of cylinders for exact alignment.  Mixes inks to obtain proper color and adds varnishes and driers as required.

Required Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. One (1) year of related experience.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFSCME local 2087 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
