Description

The Visiting Assistant Professor serves as the primary faculty members for the two-year computer science degree program. The individual reports to the Division Director for Math, IT and Engineering. All core courses are held at the UDC-CC main location, 801 North Capitol Street NE. However, there may be times the individual is expected to teach at more than one location. This position will begin Spring 2015.

$41,722.00-$65,838.00

Brief Description of Duties

 

  • Teach four (4) courses per semester
  • Conduct a minimum of five office hours per week
  • Serve as advisor to student majors; answer student inquiries (emails and voice mail messages) in a timely manner
  • Help to develop and teach appropriate online courses. Some experience with instructional technology  including Blackboard is highly desirable
  • Teach during the day, evening, and/or weekend; may include more than one campus site
  • Participate in the college governance process, recruitment day activities and college-wide committees
  • Adhere to college and department policies and procedures
  • Participates fully in curriculum development and revision
  • Recommends selection of textbooks and other instructional materials
  • Familiarity with and conducts assessment of student learning outcomes, both course and program levels, according to the standards of the College and Middle States Commission on Higher Education

Required Qualifications
 

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in Computer Science with a strong academic background in mathematics.
  • Two years of teaching experience in computer science, preferably at the college level.
  • Must possess experience with hardware, software, and  basic  network fundamentals including router, modems, and network cabling. Local Area Networking (LAN) and Wide Area Networking (WAN) are definite desirables.
  • Software experience  with  languages such  as UNIX,  C++,  ADOBE, and /or VBA are highly desirable.
  •  A strong requirement is a demonstrated use of technologies to enhance classroom teaching and student learning; must be familiar with assessment of learning outcomes.
