Brief Description of Duties:

The School of Business and Public Administration at the University of the District of Columbia (Washington) is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Management of Information Technology (MIS). The successful candidate will be expected to design, develop, and teach a range of MIS courses in the School of Business and Public Administration (SBPA). We seek candidates who will possess documented capability in teaching, scholarship, and service, and will be expected to foster the growth of first-rate MIS courses, including building on existing strengths within the School and through collaboration with other faculty in SBPA. The ideal candidate must be a scholar and enthusiastic about working with students for addressing their needs in MIS.

We are seeking outstanding applicants with a strong commitment to teaching, research, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to contribute to our School. The ideal candidate needs to be well versed in Information Science, Analytics, Cyber Security, Management Information Systems, and emerging/evolving topics in computer and MIS. They are expected to design and teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in MIS related courses; Conduct discipline-related research leading to peer reviewed publications; Assist with grants, special projects, and other tasks as may be required; Have commitment to using technology in teaching and scholarship; have experience with or interest in working in diverse academic and professional communities; Provide university and community service consistent with the goals of the School of Business and Public Administration.


Minimum Job Requirements:

  • A PhD/DBA or ABD (must complete by June 2018) from an AACSB or EQUIS accredited university in Information Systems or closely-related field.

  • Potential for excellence in discipline-related research, resulting in publication in peer reviewed IS journals. Applicants should have demonstrable ability to publish scholarly research in leading journals and the ability to teach with rigor and effectiveness.

  • Prior academic experience in a business school environment, work experience in analytics, information technology, or a related area and Potential for excellence in building and teaching Information Technology courses.

  • A demonstrated work ethic that promotes teamwork, enhances creativity and motivation, and builds consensus in a high-energy and high-task environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
 

• Must meet the School’s standards to be Scholarly Academic (SA) qualifications under AACSB standards and to support the School’s commitment to achieve and to maintain AACSB International accreditation.
• At least 1-year experience related to teaching MIS courses (GA, TA, etc.) and interests in teaching courses in the core Business programs that would include information technology, decision sciences, and related courses.
• Using innovative teaching technologies at both the undergraduate and master’s levels. This may include online or hybrid delivery, flipped classrooms, case or discussion methods, and seminar or practicum courses
• Demonstrated/potential skill in developing and expanding relationships with companies, government, and professional organizations (including NGOs) for grants and consulting projects.
• Established recent (within past two years) scholarly research accomplishments in the field and credible commitment (manuscript submission/s to refereed management-related journal/s) to ongoing pursuit of high quality research and teaching.
• Strong commitment to collaborative and interdisciplinary education and research
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, initiatives, and the ability to work in a multicultural student-centered environment.
• Must be able to meet AACSB scholarly academic qualification requirements.  No candidate will be considered who does not meet the AACSB standards for Scholarly Academics (SA).
