Brief Description of
DutiesThe duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and levels of work assigned to these positions but they are not necessarily all-inclusive. Tasks that are specific to duties and responsibilities related to this position are as follows:

  1. Conduct research in a particular field of knowledge, and publish findings in professional journals, books, and/or electronic media that are consistent with the direction of the academic program.
  2. Keep abreast of developments in their instructional and discipline areas by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, participating in professional conferences, and designing online materials to enhance academic performance.
  3. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom student-centered instructions and discussions.
  4. Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
  5. Compile, administer, and grade examinations.
  6. Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate students on topics of assigned academic course.
  7. Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  8. Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
  9. Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  10. Select instructional support materials such as textbooks, DVDs, films, etc.
  11. Advise students on academic and career issues.
  12. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
  13. Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
  14. Write grant proposals to procure external research funding.
  15. Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
  16. Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
  17. Participate in campus and community events.
  18. Act as adviser to student organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D.  in Psychology from an American Psychological Association accredited program.
  • A minimum of three (3) years teaching Psychology at the undergraduate college/university level; or  a minimum of two (2) years experience as a graduate teaching assistant, if a recent Ph.D. graduate.
  • Evidence of scholarly publications and presentations at discipline-related conferences and meetings.
  • Demonstrated evidence of the ability to work collaboratively on research projects as  well as serving on program, department and University- wide committees.
  • A commitment to interdisciplinary teaching and research collaboration as well as experience with student directed research projects i.e. STEM/MARC-U-Star Scholars is also desired.
