Brief Description of Duties


Develops, implements, and evaluates student recruitment, retention, transition, and Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning (WDLL) alumni relation strategies with an emphasis on increasing enrollment and completion of traditionally under-served, unemployed, under-employed and career changing populations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  1. Serves as the senior manager for the development and implementation of a comprehensive enrollment management, marketing and retention plan that supports institutional strategic goals that leads to an integrated process of student recruitment, retention, transitions and alumni relations that is designed to meet the mission of the WDLL division.
  2. Provides vision and leadership for the use of technology in recruitment and retention processes and collaborates with all levels of the university to build effective relationships and communicates planned strategies and actions.
  3. Coordinates data management activities for Workforce Development recruitment, retention, transition, and WDLL alumni students to ensure data generation, accuracy and delivery. Collects, analyzes and uses enrollment and retention data to meet immediate and long range division objectives.
  4. Develops new policies and programs to enhance student support services, to include:
    • Creating and implementing systems that achieve maximum productivity from WDLL Student Success staff.
    • Creating and implementing systems to follow up with students that are in danger of not persisting.
    • Creating and implementing systems to help students prepare to transition into employment opportunities and/or a two or four-year degree program.
    • Creating and implementing systems to educate graduating students about alumni benefits and engage them in programs.
  5. Supervises the WDLL recruitment, retention, transition and alumni relations processes for the Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning Division and provides leadership in the development of all literature and advertising materials. Leads the Student Success team.
  6. Develops, manages, and implements the WDLL Student Success budget.
  7. Directs and supervises the recruitment marketing initiatives and contributes to the development of the Division’s marketing plan.
  8. Develops and directs outreach efforts to actively promote, attract and enroll the traditionally under-served, unemployed, under-employed and career changing population.
  9. Makes recommendations and assists in the development of print and electronic communications to prospective students and other governmental and partner agencies.
  10. Develops, manages and oversees personnel and day-to-day operations including recruitment activities, special recruitment projects, print and electronic communications and hiring of staff.
  11. Participates with the workforce development and community college leadership team in the long-term planning process of conceptualizing and developing key programs and systems related to ensuring student success.
  12. Develops and maintains strong internal and external community and organizational relationships to further Workforce Development goals and to shape future programs.
Other Duties

Minimum Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in adult education, higher education or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  2. Background in student support services preferred.
  3. At least four years of experience in higher education, student services, or related field.
  4. Five years of management experience in teaching, training, management, policy and program development.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
