Brief Description of
Duties
Incumbent functions as a Clinical Instructor in the Speech-Language Pathology Program, Center for Urban Education, College of Arts and Sciences, Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, University of the District of Columbia. The primary responsibility associated with this position is to provide direct and indirect instruction in clinical methods in speech-language pathology to students in accordance with the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech – Language Pathology and the American  Speech-Language-Haring Association (ASHA) guidelines.
 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Instruct/supervise undergraduate and graduate student clinicians in  training across identification, screening, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of children and adults with communication disorders
  2. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (at least one course annually)
  3. Model expert treatment and diagnostic skills for students in training
  4. Engage in scholarship including efficacy/evidence-based research; and
  5. Assist with coordination of clinical services across in-house and external sites.
  6. Assist with placement of students in externship facilities
OTHER DUTIES:
  1. Evaluate student clinical performance;
  2. Participate in the planning and execution of clinic orientations, didactics, scheduling, and other activities that promote effective and efficient clinical experiences;
  3. Participate in clinical advising activities;
  4. Complete records management tasks.

Required Qualifications
 

  1. An earned graduate degree in speech-language pathology; a doctorate is preferred.
  2. Current clinical certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and DC Licensure;
  3. Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience;
  4. Minimum of three (3) years clinical supervision experience;
  5. College level teaching experience; and
  6. Commitment to graduate-level education.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
