Description

The Assistant Director of Career Services will assist the Career Services Director with developing and implementing all office services, including student and alumni counseling, programming, and employer outreach and administration. The Assistant Director will report to the Director.

Salary Range: $58,381.00-$62,137.00

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
 

  1. Counsels students and alumni in all phases of career development and employment search strategies.
  2. Reviews cover letters, resumes and other career-related student and alumni materials.
  3. Develops and runs a wide range of programs for students and alumni including job search skills, and practice area seminars.
  4. Maintains the job/internship database.
  5. Develops on-campus recruiting events.
  6. Assists in developing and overseeing programming for part-time students.
  7. Assists in developing marketing strategies to a wide range of potential employers and strengthen ties to existing employers.
  8. Develops strategies to strengthen relationships with alumni.
  9. Develops career development reference materials; expands on-line library, maintains web pages.
  10. Manages and develops off-campus recruiting programs including consortium events.
OTHER DUTIES:
 
  1. Assists in all administrative responsibilities including job postings, reciprocity requests, all career and other surveys (NALP, ABA, etc). Participates in UDC committees as necessary.
  2. Participates in local, regional and national legal recruitment associations and other professional associations.
Minimum Job Requirements:
  1. J.D. required and at least 3 years of legal practice experience required. Current bar membership preferred but not required.
Required Competencies:
 
  1. Experience and knowledge of metro DC legal employment market strongly preferred.
  2. Previous experience in legal recruiting, law school administration, and/or overseeing law student intern programs strongly preferred.
  3. Computer competency required; experience in social networking tools a plus.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with a wide range of constituencies and effectively work one-on-one with individuals and groups.
  5. Ability to plan, coordinate and lead programs of varying lengths.
  6. Demonstrated problem-solving skills, creativity, ability to take initiative, work collaboratively and

Condition of Employment: This is a sponsored program appointment. The duration of this appointment is subject to grant fund availability.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
