The University of the District of Columbia is seeking a dynamic, patron-centered individual with collaboration skills and experiences to serve as the Division Director for Business and Security Studies. The Division Director for Business and Security Studies is directly responsible for the administration of programs in an academic division in concert with the faculty and under the supervision of the Chief Academic Officer (Dean of Academic Affairs). This is a 9-month, permanent position with tenured faculty rank of Associate Professor.

Brief Description of Duties
The Division Director for Business and Security Studies oversees governance among the division programs, communicates the vision, mission, and perspective of the College to faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders, and the needs and strategic directions of the division to the chief academic officer, CEO and other campus constituents, provides overall leadership for developing division plans, new program or course development, divisional operations, curriculum study, planning and improvements, prepares and administers budget according to UDC policies and procedures, approves procurement requests and manages resources, oversees efforts to recruit, select, and orient new faculty, including adjuncts, coordinates faculty workloads, develops course schedules, and assigns instructors and classrooms, evaluates faculty and staff performance, oversees faculty progress in program and general education assessment of learning activities and assumes a major role in student recruitment and retention. The Division Director also promotes a positive and democratic work environment to include faculty participation in decision making, respect for academic freedom, and positive interpersonal relationships with and between faculty and staff within the division and the campus community, promotes and models transparency of decision making, assists in the resolution of student grievances, promotes and facilitates faculty development within the division, demonstrates support and commitment to equal opportunity and affirmative action, ensures all textbook orders are submitted before the conclusion of the preceding semester, establishes partnerships with employers, including trade and professional associations, assists in securing funds and grants for special projects relating to division programs, and works effectively and collaboratively with the Dean and Assistant Dean of Academic and other faculty and staff within the Community College and UDC.
Master's degree with specialty and experience in one of the teaching areas represented within the division, earned doctorate preferred, at least five years of full-time teaching and higher education administration experience in an academic unit and must have a distinguished record of scholarship and, particularly, teaching that merits appointment as a tenured associate professor in an area represented within the division/college. Success with interdisciplinary research, teaching and outreach activities, experience with accreditation process, experience working with students including advising, teaching and mentoring, success as a principal investigator or co-investigator of a federally funded project, demonstrated commitment to and success in shared governance model, experience with instructional technology and online learning including Blackboard, possess a high level of professionalism, including collaboration, excellent communication and customer service skills, and skill in teaching a diverse student body with various learning styles and able to work with colleagues and administrators in a fast-paced environment.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.
Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
