Brief Description of
Duties
Reporting directly to the Director of the Research Academy for Integrated Learning, this administrative faculty position is responsible for training and supporting University faculty in the following areas; employing SoTL scholarship, enacting best practices in teaching and learning, leveraging technology to improve student learning outcomes.  The incumbent is also responsible for assisting the unit head (Director) in support of teaching and learning related initiatives and programs (face-to-face and online) offered by the academic units of the University of the District of Columbia.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Coordinate the university online course peer-review process.
  2. Teach faculty development workshops during academic year and summer academy programs.
  3. Mentor faculty in creation of online courses.
  4. Conduct research on online learning programs and strategies.
OTHER DUTIES:
  1. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
 

  1. Ph.D. or Ed. D. from an accredited institution of higher education with concentrations in instructional design, online learning, or a related field in teaching and learning.
  2. Minimum of five years of teaching experience at the college level with online teaching experience.
  3. Minimum of five years experience with educational administration.
  4. Demonstrated success working in or with a diverse academic environment.
  1. Five or more years of research experience.
  2. A thorough knowledge in instructional design practices as they relate to learning.
  3. An active research agenda in teaching and learning or a closely related field.
  4. Familiarity with Quality Matters is desired. Candidate should be experience using Blackboard, soft Chalk, Web 2.0 tools, and other relevant applications.
  REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
  1. Mastery of the creation/delivery of workshops and instructional learning experiences.
  2. Knowledge of instructional design and learning theory.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate with different constituencies within and outside the university, and work collaboratively in team settings.
  4. Proven record of teaching with varied instructional methodologies, curriculum and program development, administration of education programs, program and learning outcome assessments and grant development.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
