Brief Description of Duties


The Director of Student Operations works under the direction of the Dean of Student Achievement, performing a wide range of administrative functions in support of the Office and associated with managing the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Achievement. The Director of Student Operations supports the departments, programs and activities that comprise the Office of Student Achievement: Student Success Center, Career Services, Office of Counseling and Disabilities, Registrar, Student Life, Financial Aid and Admissions (shared services), Front Desk as well as the initiatives that emanate from the overall departments. 

Essential Duties
 

  • Serves as information resource for students, faculty, administrators, and the community at large on matters regarding the Office of Student Achievement’s programs and/or university policies, procedures, and activities.
  • Identifies problem areas, with regard to the administrative management of the Dean’s Office and recommends solutions.
  • Assists the Dean of Student Achievement in developing services related to semester and annual enrollment management, in conjunction with the Office of Recruitment and Admissions in support of the University-wide strategic enrollment management plan.
  • Maintains office efficiency by planning and implementing office systems, layouts, and equipment procurement.
  • Works closely with all offices within the Office of Student Achievement to identify needs, monitor requests, make assessments, and take action when necessary.
  • Keeps the Dean informed by reviewing and analyzing reports, i.e., IT, IR, Admissions, Registration, SENSE, CCSSE; summarizing information; identifying trends and making recommendations for systematic and/or programmatic changes.
  • Works with the Office of Human Resources to begin the hiring process for staff by assisting with recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees. Responsible for recommending selection panel committees.
  • Supervises, trains and evaluates office support staff; administrative specialist, customer service representative, and information receptionist, in addition to student workers.
  • Develops assessment tools that allow the ability to collect, analyze and report evaluative information to continually monitor the effectiveness of all programs and services for areas within the Office.
  • Exercises discretion and takes independent action on behalf of the Dean on routine matters and in emergency situations.
  • Develops and monitors departmental calendar of activities and assignments of each functional area within the Office of Student Achievement.
  • Informs the Dean of student conduct issues, in conjunction with the Threat Assessment Team (TAT).
  • Prepares various monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.  Creates and utilizes existing software to maintain in-house departmental analyses of student outcomes (as it relates to the Office of Student Achievement).
  • Responsible for planning and coordination of activities relating to the department’s responsibilities and services to other areas of the College, external clients, organization and interest groups.
  • Serves on college-wide committees.
  • Serves as dean’s designee, upon request, in the absence of the Dean of Student Achievement.

Required Qualifications
 

  • Bachelor’s  degree required
  • Five (5) years of work experience in operations role: progressively responsible administrative, budget, planning, organizational, managerial and supervisory experience
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience

Condition of Employment:  Temporary employment is restricted to a one year appointment and employment may be ended at anytime with or without cause.
