Description

The incumbent functions as the Website and Database Administrator of the School of Law and reports to the Dean of the School of Law.  The incumbent works directly for the Dean receiving direction from the Dean through broad policy objectives and priorities of the School of Law.

Brief Description of Duties

 

  1. Collaborate with law school administration, and law school University IT departments, to determine the law school web site’s purpose, functions, requirements and long-term strategy.
  2. Assist in the analysis and evaluation of the technology and communication needs of the law school that will directly support teaching and learning needs in the classroom.
  3. Work closely with the law school administration and unit directors in developing, collating, formatting, editing and disseminating on-line and print materials.
  4. Develop, research, lay out and write or edit web site articles and sections.
  5. Update the law school’s web pages and deep links on a regular basis.
  6. Keep up with technical and security standards and protocols that affect the law school web site.
  7. Assist in maintaining the daily operation of the law school’s on-line resources, including the Your Membership website, Banner, Luminis, Sharepoint, Symplicity, Intranets, blogs, and wikis.
  8. Coordinate with the law school’s IT Department regarding software and web-based applications.
  9. Research emerging technologies and services that may enhance the web experience and make recommendations to law school administration.
  10. Administer and coordinate law school databases.
  11. Track and manage all aspects of bar passage statistics and data.
  12. Write reports for submission to the American Bar Association and other accrediting bodies.
  13. Provide technical support and instructions for on-line resources.
  14. Respond to or direct inquires received through the website.
  15. Assist faculty and staff with targeted e-mail communications.
  16. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Must have a degree from a 4-year institution.  Preference is given to degrees in computer science.
  2. Must be knowledgeable about the technical, legal, and administrative aspects of website administration, including navigation, layout and HTML standards; update protocols, security; redundancy; accessibility; and acceptable use.
  3. Must have experience in creating and maintaining databases in SQL, including writing Boolean queries and designing reports.
  4. Must be able to edit digital photographs and graphics.
  5. Must have excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
  6. Must have excellent attention to detail.
  7. Must have 2-3 years experience as a web administrator, preferably in an educational setting

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFSCME local 2087 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
