Description

The College Access and Readiness for Everyone (CARE) Program is a special undergraduate program for pre-college students at the University of the District of Columbia Community College (UDC-CC) that began in spring 2012. CARE’s mission is to help Washington, DC students experience success in college. The Program Coordinator of College Readiness, Partnerships, and Volunteers is a position within the CARE Program team.

 

The CARE Program currently serves DC public and public charter school students in grades 9-12 and GED programs by providing dual enrollment opportunities (college credit, dual credit, articulated credit, and classes on the college campus) and student support services to aid in the transition from secondary to post-secondary education. The Program serves DC public and public charter school students, including pre-college youth and adults in grades 9-12, GED, NEDP, alternative, homeschool and STAY programs. CARE currently partners with 33 DC schools. As of spring 2017, CARE has dual enrolled 1,400 students.

 

CARE Dual enrollment opportunities allow accepted students to earn college credits by taking college-level courses at a UDC-CC campus, at no cost. CARE student support services include special programming, advisors, and access to college resources.

Brief Description of Duties
The individual in this position will help to anchor this work with K-12 DC schools, including public and public charter schools, and support community partners in order to sustain and expand effective programs aimed at students’ access to and success in post-secondary education. The College Readiness, Partnership and Volunteer Coordinator will assist the Director of College Readiness and Community Outreach with CARE programming, housed in the Office of Academic Affairs Division, in four key areas: K-12 school and community partner outreach, marketing and communications, volunteer recruitment, and other programmatic assistance including special projects. The individual in this position reports directly to the Director of College Readiness and Community Outreach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
K-12 School and Community Partner Outreach:

  • Assist the Office with fostering and managing outreach for prospective and existing K-12 and community partnerships; Serves as a liaison to K-12 schools and community partners for Dual Enrollment or early college access (dual credit, Career and Technical Education courses, or other articulated credit courses).
  • Assist with student recruitment for Dual Enrollment, Summer Bridge, and other Bridge programming to meet recruitment targets set by the Director.
  • For partnerships revolving around CARE programming, help with implementing partnership agreements for new partners and update existing school and community partner agreements, i.e. MOU/MOA, articulation agreement, and/or school-specific agreement that reflect the contributions and expectations of each partner.
  • Assist with recruitment and training of community partner groups or organizations that support pre-college students in: 1) Dual enrollment, 2) Summer bridge and other bridge programs, 3) Early assessment of college readiness, and 4) Other student success efforts.
  • Lead one or more parent and family information sessions each semester (fall, spring, and summer) to share information on CARE programming.
  • Liaise with parents and families of DC students at community or school events to share dual enrollment and other information about UDC-CC.

Marketing and Communications:

  • Maintain regular communications with partners, requesting regular feedback on the progress of our partnerships and report back results to the Director monthly.
  • Help institute a feedback loop for these partners to share input about program development and implementation.
  • Assist with school and community partner marketing materials for CARE programming, providing content revisions when necessary.
  • Develop marketing campaign to improve visibility of UDC-CC and the K-12 student experience in our early college programming.
  • Implement a quarterly newsletter with relevant UDC-CC information for K-12 and other pre-college students in DC schools.

Volunteer Recruitment:

  • Recruit and manage volunteers to assist with outreach efforts for CARE programs based on the needs set by the Director.
  • Train student ambassadors (volunteers) to support CARE programs, orientation activities, trainings and on-campus experiences for pre-college students.

Other Programmatic Assistance and Special Projects:

  • Provide assistance to the Director regarding the day-to-day management of the CARE programming, including: dual enrollment, early college readiness assessment and intervention, bridge programming, and other related events, activities, or projects.
  • Assist with advising, registration, and support of dual enrolled students and associated faculty.
  • Create a monthly report for the Director on outreach, marketing and communications, and volunteer recruitment, and any special projects that reflect key achievements, barriers to success, concerns, and recommendations.
  • Assist with training opportunities, conferences, and other leadership opportunities to help advance DC school and community leaders’ understanding of UDC-CC pre-college programs and services.
  • Assist with good stewardship of grant funds, including proposal writing, invoicing, and reporting.
  • Support the Director of College Readiness and Community Outreach and UDC-CC Academic Deans to provide support with special projects upon request (i.e. specialized retention programs, mentor programs, etc.)

OTHER DUTIES:

  1. Attendance at weekend, evening, and off-site programming may be required
  2. Respond to general inquiries about all CARE programming
  3. Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Business Management or related field
  2. Two years experience in education, business, or related non-profit work
  3. Experience working with youth
  4. One year of lead or project management experience
  5. Familiarity with education community, and industry stakeholders in Washington, DC

Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years.
