The University of the District of Columbia, College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) seeks candidates for a visiting Assistant/Associate faculty position in Nutrition and Dietetics, with a start date of August 16, 2015.

Salary Range: Assistant: $41,722- $65,838 Associate: $51,238- $77,700

Brief Description of Duties

 

  1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses to nutrition and dietetics students and participate in scholarly activities in an area appropriate to the field of nutrition and/or dietetics.
  2. Engage students in community-centered activities to prepare them for entry into dietetics internships.
  3. Work with students to plan and mentor research and service learning experiences that stress experiential learning and the development of critical skills relevant to the DPD.
  4. Work with students to plan and implement effective leadership development opportunities both in the classroom and outside of the classroom.
  5. Advise students, hold office hours, and perform course reviews with appropriate corrective/enhancement actions.
  6. Utilize a variety of assessment techniques to ensure achievement of student learning outcomes.
  7. Serve as thesis advisor and committee member for graduate thesis projects.
  8. Demonstrate familiarity with a variety of instructional delivery methods, including on-line learning, social media, portfolios to provide educational content and opportunities supported by evidence based research and individual expertise.
  9. Participate in department, college and university service.
  10. Develop and maintain awareness of urban community health issues related to underserved populations in the District of Columbia.
  11. Have a research focus in any of the following area: sustainable food systems, community nutrition intervention and education, behavioral nutrition intervention, food policy, pediatric obesity and nutrition.
  12. Demonstrate familiarity with or ability to become familiar with Blackboard and Banner, the university’s instructional and management systems,.
  13. Be familiar with the ACEND accreditation standards of Nutrition and Dietetics at the baccalaureate level.
  14. Work collaboratively with the DPD Program Director, DPD Program faculty, other academic units and landgrant program unites in CAUSES, as well as District of Columbia (DC) agencies and service providers to effectively address professional practice issues in nutrition and dietetics, especially related to disease prevention.
  15. Contribute to the university’s landgrant mission through outreach and engagement with students, Cooperative Extension, and key community stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  1. Masters of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics required, PhD preferred.
  2. Registered Nutritionist and Dietitian (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD)
  3. Professional Nutrition/Dietetics license in the District of Columbia
  4. Three years of teaching or clinical experience in nutrition and dietetics
  5. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  6. Proven record of teaching, research, program planning and problem-solving skills
  7. Familiarity with and adherence to ACEND accreditation standards
  8. Familiarity with or ability to become familiar with the urban landgrant mission of the university and its dual mission or academic excellence and community outreach
