Brief Description of Duties

Serves as a Computer Lab Assistant in the School of Business and Public Administration.

  1. Maintains and updates workstations, equipment, and peripherals; researches and tests new software; installs software upgrades and enhancements; uses imaging software to create and deploy desktop computers.
  2. Performs computer trouble-shooting to diagnose system problems; analyzes hardware and software functionality; identifies, locates, resolves and repairs problems.
  3. Assists in providing technical support to students and instructors to assist in the training of students, faculty, and staff on software/ applications, hardware, devices usage.
  4. Collects, compiles, analyzes, and presents reports for technical and administrative information.
  5. Installs, maintains, and monitors network and local printers.
  6. Delivers and sets up audio visual equipment during schools events.
  7. Delivers accurate inventory to all the IT systems of the school.
  8. Assists the computer specialist in updating the social network platform of the school.
  9. Assists the computer specialist in installing and maintaining servers, managing databases and improving the IT infrastructure in the school.

 

Required Qualifications
 

  1. Three (3) years related job experience.
  2. Associate degree in IT or related field of study
  3. Knowledge of Microsoft 2010 and 2013.
  4. Global knowledge of TCP/IP, Windows Domain and GPO (Group Policies).
  5. Knowledge of the goals and objectives of the School of Business and Public Administration as they pertain to the program and the ability to apply the same in daily task completions and program applications.
  6. Knowledge of how to debug and troubleshoot computers and systems.
  7. Knowledge of various operating systems (Windows 7, Windows 8, MAC OS).

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFSME local 2087 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
