The Director of Academic Support Services (Office of Academic Affairs) is responsible for managing, overseeing, planning and/or collaborating in a variety of academic initiatives that include student academic issues, policies governing adjunct faculty employment and evaluation, strategic planning related to competency-based learning and academic innovation, professional development, and other selected issues that fall under the umbrella of the University of the District of Columbia.

Brief Description of Duties

The Director of Academic Support Services (Office of Academic Affairs) addresses student academic issues including but not limited to registration, course holds, grade appeals, grievances, and classroom/faculty issues, assists with the coordination of the First Year Seminar program including hiring of instructors, works collaboratively related to adjunct hiring and overseeing budget related to adjunct salaries and special projects, coordinates with the UDC Judicial Hearing Officer and Campus Safety on student behavioral issues and the Director of Operations for needs related to faculty workrooms, classroom and academic equipment maintenance. The Director also assists with special projects related to new program development, assessment, accreditation, professional development, and academic innovation, supervises administrative staff and student workers to ensure the quality and quantity of projects and support services, contributes to the creation of systems, structures, and policies for academic affairs, assists in actively seeking grant funding to support the growth of existing academic programs and development of new ones which meet workforce needs of the DC metropolitan region, as well as assist in the development of a comprehensive and robust service-learning program, serves as the center liaison and contributes to the development of the college's student learning outcomes assessment and quality review initiatives.

Required Qualifications
 
Master's degree required; background in academic affairs preferred, minimum of five years in higher education administration, demonstrated success working in or with a diverse academic environment, experience of successfully working with faculty members and understanding academic policies and procedures and understanding of the structures, principles and general culture of academic life including the roles of the faculty, board and administration. Knowledge of the organization mission and programs and operating principles of a college-level academic unit, ability to plan, manage and coordinate many concurrent projects without compromising the quality or timeliness of products, planning and organizational skills, and clear and articulate writing and editing skills.
