Brief Description of Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean for the Workforce Development & Lifelong Learning Division, the employee plans and carries out the successive steps and handles problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with instructions, policies or accepted practices. The Workforce Development & Lifelong Learning Division (WDLL) is a longstanding program of the University/Community College of the District of Columbia.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans, coordinates and assists in managing healthcare career and technical education programs located at various workforce development sites in the city.These programs include those regulated by the DC Board of Nursing and other Boards.
  • Assists in establishing courses and program offerings consistent with healthcare career and technical programs and courses.
  • Assists in determining the demand for and potential clients for healthcare career and technical skills training programs and services.
  • Assists in selecting, writing, editing and assembling course materials and develops and organizes training manuals and educational materials for healthcare course offerings.
  • In consultation with the Associate Dean, responds to requests to provide summaries of data, records and/or progress reports on healthcare career and technical education programs.
  • Researches and provides continuous up to date information on changes to Board of Nursing and other board regulations as it relates to healthcare career and technical education.
  • Assists in the development of program strategies, reviews and evaluates non-credit and informal education programs for quality performance and compliance with industry and government standards.
  • Coordinates, conducts or arranges for program offerings, courses, and ongoing healthcare training, including required clinical, for residents of the District of Columbia.
  • Confers with management and conducts surveys to identify training needs based on projected production processes, changes and other factors.
  • Evaluates instructor performance and the effectiveness of classes, training programs and provides recommendations for continued improvement.
  • Develops outcomes assessment strategies for non-credit and informal/enrichment education programs.
  • Coordinates and participates in career and technical education and workforce development outreach activities and career fairs
  • Works with the Associate Dean to develop marketing materials.
  • Identify additional professional development opportunities for instructors and teaching staff.
  • Participates in meetings and conferences.
  • Supervises healthcare program staff.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • BSN degree required.
  • Meet Board of Nursing requirements for Nursing Assistive Personnel Coordinator (Registered nurse with a current, unencumbered license issued by the District of Columbia; clinical experience in the long-term clinical practice settings; teaching experience).
  • Knowledge of federal and local laws and regulations related to health certification and licensure programs to ensure all program standards and curricula are adhered to
  • Knowledge of methods used to collect, analyze, and assemble pertinent facts; evaluate, arrange, and present responses; and to review written reports and prepare summaries to facilitate program operations.
  • Knowledge of applying instructional aides and techniques to strengthen healthcare curricula
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds 
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Senior level managerial and organizational skills.
  • Skilled in organizational development, strategic planning and public policy research and development

Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
