Description

The incumbent functions as Adult Literacy/GED Instructor in the University of the District of Columbia Community College, Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning Division, Marion Shadd location. The responsibilities of this position include the planning, preparation, instruction, and supervision of adult learners enrolled in workforce development classes. This position will report directly to the Site Director at the Marion Shadd location.

Brief Description of Duties

  1. Develops, organizes, and conducts basic literacy assessments and evaluation, and on- line courses which are flexible in design and which meet the individual needs of the students enrolled in the program.
  2. As appropriate, conducts classes which are open-ended, and instructs students who have been enrolled in the class for varying lengths of time.
  3. Responsible for making recommendations for individual training plans for students assessed in the workforce development program.
  4. The incumbent's course format and daily lesson plans reflect such individualization.
  5. The incumbent is responsible for the overall maintenance and improvement of the assigned course area. The inclusion of new and improved methods of instruction and laboratory techniques in the curriculum will require, when possible, the incumbent's participation in training seminars.
  6. Responsible for maintaining high morale and discipline.
  7. Counsels students on matters pertaining to the training, as well as, career options and goals; employment procedures; enforces rules and regulations for safety and health, and exercises controlled supervision at all times.
  8. Responsible for preparing required reports and correspondence, and for the maintenance, security, and confidentiality of records of all students enrolled in his/ her training cluster.
  9. Responsible for preparing reports for and attending team meetings for youth assigned to his/ her training cluster.
  10. Responsible for maintaining security and control of the Learning Laboratory and all hardware and software related to the Learning Lab as well as all materials used by students.
  11. Researches and recommends assessment and evaluation tools and materials.


Required Qualifications

  1. BS degree preferred or exemplary and comprehensive work experience is sufficient.

Condition of Employment:  This is a temporary appointment.  Temporary employment may be ended at anytime with or without cause.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Non-Union): This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.
