Description

The Assistant/Associate Professor, Business, is a member of the AA degree program in Business, and is responsible for teaching various courses related to business management and administration.  All core courses are held at the UDC-CC main location, 801 North Capitol St. NE. However, there may be times the individual is expected to teach at more than one location. Emphasis is placed on Teaching Effectiveness, and on advancing the mission and vision of UDC-CC.  This is a 9-month, tenure track position.

Brief Description of Duties

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with the College’s approved course description and competency-based student learning outcomes
  • Plan activities that actively engage students in learning
  • Participate in student recruitment activities
  • Plan course activities that intentionally link to internships in community based, private and public organizations
  • Coordinate job placement and career development activities for students
  • Assist with development of assessment portfolios in the College’s electronic assessment system, edit and proofread rubrics, develop assignments, assignment directions, forms and other items in the electronic assessment system related to assigned courses
  • Incorporate appropriate teaching-learning strategies, technologies, and assessment methods for evaluation of student learning into the course
  • Integrate information literacy and writing into courses as appropriate
  • Follow the College’s guidelines for preparing and submitting course syllabi
  • Meet all scheduled classes and adhere to the academic schedule, which includes final exam times and other program-related testing
  • Assess student learning outcome achievement and incorporate results into discipline appropriate course planning and personal professional development activities
  • Participate in course, curriculum, and program assessment activities
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinator/Division Director/Dean in the development and revision of courses of study and curricula
  • Collaborate with university faculty to facilitate the smooth transition of students into a four year degree program
  • Implement the recommendations of the program review committee
  • Develop appropriate assessment of student learning at the course, program and College levels
  • Engage in activities that facilitate student achievement of learning outcomes, such as ongoing feedback, and consultation as needed
  • Submit required reports on student attendance and course progress according to published deadlines
  • Complete and Submit data summary reports on student assessments, results and action steps taken to improve student attainment of course and program learning outcomes
  • Populate courses in the TK20 Electronic Assessment System
  • Use the Learning Management System (LMS), Blackboard, to manage courses
  • Collaborate with appropriate Student Services personnel to address perceived student issues, which may require special attention
  • Engage in on-going professional development that promotes and maintains currency in discipline knowledge and instructional methods
  • Attend scheduled divisional, discipline, and general faculty meetings, as well as the faculty professional development day, convocation and commencement
  • Seek opportunities to provide College and community service
  • Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct
Required Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance or Accounting from an accredited institution. The candidate must also possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching courses in Business. A CPA credential is preferred. Experience teaching accounting at the college level preferred.

A candidate for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor shall be required to meet the
following qualifications: 
  • An earned doctorate or the highest appropriate credential in the field of specialization, or experience and achievements comparable to the doctorate;
  • A record of scholarship and professional growth; and
  • At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in an institution of higher education, including three (3) years as an Assistant Professor. Community College experience preferred.
     
    A candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications:
     
  • An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial contract; and
  • At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including two (2) years in an institution of higher education. Community College experience preferred. 

Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience in the discipline is limited or absent. When formal teaching experience is limited or absent, the candidate shall be required to demonstrate verifiable potential for effective teaching.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
