Brief Description of Duties

The Assessment Specialist of the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) of the University of the District of Columbia, reports to the Special Assistant to the Dean and is responsible for managing the College’s assessment needs to ensure the ongoing assessment of academic programs, landgrant programs and research activities in the college. The Assessment Specialist oversees data collection; maintains assessment and program evaluation databases; prepares reports and other communication to highlight assessment results; and manages assessment processes including collection, preparation, analysis, and reporting of data.  The Assessment Specialist collaborates closely with the academic and landgrant staff in CAUSES to ensure that program outcomes and impacts are captured and communicated accurately and effectively.  The incumbent will work closely and cooperatively with the Dean, Associate Deans, Department Chairs and Langrant Center Directors, must be a team player, be creative, work efficiently and effectively, perform duties with independence, initiative, and reliability, work well under the pressure of deadlines, and be familiar with (or become familiar with) the regulations, policies and procedures established by the USDA, District Agencies and other program sponsors and collaborators of CAUSES. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains assessment and evaluation databases relating to the University’s landgrant research, community outreach and academic programs in CAUSES.
  2. Works closely with Landgrant Center directors and academic department chairs in facilitating requests for data and reports.
  3. Supervises the Assessment Team, assigning work and activities, and ensuring that goals and objectives of the unit are met.
  4. Prepares and administers program assessment surveys, statistical data and reports to identify areas for continuous improvement.
  5. Works with the Marketing and Communications Manager to assist in the preparation of reports to internal and external constituencies.
  6. In collaboration with the Dean, Associate Deans, and Special Assistant to the Dean, identifies suitable outcomes and impact measures and implements the assessment and data management process for the landgrant and academic program activities.   
  7. Coordinates and conducts on-site visits of landgrant programs to evaluate program effectiveness and impact.
  8. Assists the Special Assistant to the Dean with tasks relative to data collection, input, and analysis for the Annual Report and Plan of Work as required by the USDA NIFA.
  9. Assists the Dean, Associate Deans, and Special Assistant to the Dean, with formative evaluation assessments of research, community outreach and academic programs
  10. Identifies problem areas, with regard to the assessment activities of the college and recommends solutions and strategies for continuous improvement.
  1. Plans and coordinates activities relating to the College’s responsibilities to university wide assessment activities, sponsoring agencies, clients and collaborators.
  2.  Leads occasional professional development activities to ensure effective and reliable program outcomes and impacts assessment.
  3. Teaches one graduate or undergraduate course per semester or equivalent landgrant certificate course as needed.
  4. Collaborates with faculty and landgrant specialists in the planning and implementation of program assessment and quality outcomes.
 
 
OTHER DUTIES:
  1. Works effectively and collaboratively with the Dean, Associate Deans, Special Assistant to the Dean and other faculty and staff within the college and the University as required by specific projects. 
  2. Performs other duties as assigned including special assignments related to the areas of responsibility and the needs of the college. 

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in Statistics, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a field related to the responsibilities of CAUSES and its academic and landgrant programs; Bachelor’s degree may plus strong professional experience may be considered.
  2. Proven record of successful program assessment, data management and project management.
  3. Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in data management and assessment.

Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
