The Student Success Specialist of the University of the District of Columbia, Community College (UDC-CC) reports directly to the Director of the Student Success Center and is responsible for providing front-line customer service and working with students from recruitment through completion of course/program and beyond. The Student Success Specialist will coordinate the seamless transition from certificate Workforce Development programs to the Associate's degree programs offered within UDC-CC. This individual will provide timely and accurate academic advising, and will interpret certificate program and Associate's degree program requirements. The Student Success Specialist carries out day-to-day program related activities as well as strategic objectives and is committed to the continuous improvement of Workforce Development and Associate's degree programs. The incumbent may be required to travel between the various UDC-CC sites.

Brief Description of Duties
The individual will assist students with admission and registration information/provides guidance in course selection process in keeping with the student's interest, values and abilities, interprets and explains college and university policies and procedures; participates in preparation of orientations and presents educational information to new students and other vested parties during orientation, provides academic advising and other services to support student retention and success, develops programming and outreach activities related to student success initiatives and assists with gathering information, development of studies, and compilation of materials and report writing. The Student Success Specialist also coordinates, evaluates and improves Workforce Development and Certificate Programs in support of the mission and alignment efforts to the Associate's degree programs, collaborates closely with the certificate and degree program leadership on recruitment and retention, executes special assignments related to his/her areas of responsibility as well as the needs of UDC-CC, monitors academic progress of students, identifies options for students to satisfy specific degree requirements, evaluates transfer credits from other academic institutions for equivalencies and application to degree program, works effectively and collaboratively with UDC department staff and other UDC and Community College faculty and staff, as well as, site directors, deans to expand and solidify effective working relationships with external constituencies, program sponsors and potential sponsors.
Minimum Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, Sociology, or related field, a minimum of two years of community college and/or workforce development experience with emphasis on academic advising, student success and retention, and background in student support services.
- Demonstrated ability to develop oversee, and asses effective programs.
- Excellent writing and oral presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with a broad range of constituencies and stakeholders within the Community College and UDC as well as outside of the college and the university.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as under pressure of deadlines in a goal-driven, fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, take initiative and exhibit creativity in implementing all responsibilities.

Condition of Employment: This is a sponsored program appointment. The duration of this appointment is subject to grant fund availability.
Collective Bargaining Unit (Non-Union): This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.
