The Associate Professor, Nursing Care of Children of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) program at the University of the District of Columbia is seeking a dynamic, patron-centered individual. The Associate Professor is a member of the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) program and is responsible for teaching various courses including those for nursing care of children. The individual reports to the Director of Nursing. All core courses are held at the UDC-CC main location, 801 North Capitol Street NE. However, there may be times the individual is expected to teach at more than one location. This is 9-month, permanent tenure-track position.

Brief Description of Duties

The Associate Professor, Nursing Care of Children teaches nursing courses, provides laboratory and clinical instruction, recruits, advises and assists with the retention of students, answers students inquiries (emails and voicemail messages) in a timely manner, engages in scholarly activities and community service, conducts a minimum of five office hours per week, helps to develop and teach appropriate online courses and have some experience with instructional technology, including Blackboard.  The Visiting Associate Professor, Pediatrics must also teaching during the day, evening, and/or weekend, participate in the college governance process and college-wide committees, adhere to college and program policies and procedures, participate fully in curriculum development and revision, recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, adhere to and fulfill all NLNAC standards, and assist in the development of an effective means of assessing student learning outcomes in accordance with NLNAC standards.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Nursing with a clinical focus in nursing care of children is required.  Must be registered or eligible for license in the District of Columbia, knowledge of current nursing practices, an understanding of program objectives, at least two years of recent clinical and teaching experience, skills in teaching a diverse student body with various learning styles, familiarity or knowledge of differentiated instruction, a high level of professional and ability to work with colleagues and administrators in the development of goals for the curriculum and the Community College in a fast paced environment.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
