Brief Description of Duties
Incumbent functions as Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.  This position works under the general supervision of the Head Women’s Basketball Coach who outlines broad program goals and objectives.   
                                                                                                                                               
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:                                                                                          
 

  1. Works with the head coach to develop implement and manage the budget for the program. Prepares and finalizes travel arrangements for the program according to departmental policies and guidelines.
  2. Assists in making assignments and providing supervision and direction to the team manager and volunteer assistant coaches.
  3. Assists in organizing and conducting practice sessions.
  4. Assists in the recruitment of student athletes.
  5. Assists in preparing the budget for the sport’s activity.
  6. As needed finalizes travel arrangements and details with the Athletic Director.
  7. Assists in preparing equipment requests as needed.
  8. Assists in scheduling of scrimmages and contests (conference and non conference).
  9. Recommends student-athletes for awards to head coach.
  10. Provides updated team roster for eligibility, administrative and promotions clarification when directed.
OTHER DUTIES:
 
  1. Assists in coordination of team pictures and news releases with Assistant Director for Communication
  2. Assists in ensuring appropriate conduct of student-athletes on team trips.
  3. Assists in academic study session and progress report monitoring.
  4. Assist in the planning and coordination of team building activities, fundraising initiatives and departmental activities and events.
  5. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  6. Assist with implementation of intramural basketball program.
  7. Assist with implementation of camps and clinics.

 

Required Qualifications
 

  1.  B.S. Degree
  2. Coaching and playing experience

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.
