Brief Description of Duties


The University of the District of Columbia, College of Arts and Sciences, Division of Education, Health and Social Work, Speech – Language Pathology Program invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the Speech – Language Pathology Graduate Program. This visiting position is available for a target start date of August 2017.
The Speech – Language Pathology Program is housed in the Division of Education, Health and Social Work. The Program is CAA accredited and currently offers a graduate degree in speech-language pathology. Program faculty are highly committed to preparing students for a variety of clinical interactions with specific focus on training students to meet the needs of underserved, multicultural populations through focus on issues of disparity in health concerns and allied health provider response.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Establish annual goals and objectives which are congruent with the university’s strategic goals and the college’s strategic initiatives;
  • Maintain a level of scholarly engagement that includes publication, presentation, and leadership on committees internally and externally;
  • Work closely with the Division Chair and Division program coordinators and directors to establish and accomplish University accreditation and ASHA CAA accreditation goals;
  • Work closely with the assessment team to monitor data system development, and data collection, analysis, and reporting internally and to accreditation and other external agencies as well as use data for decision-making in the program;
  • Teach courses in the Speech Language pathology program, specifically courses with a Pediatrics and Child Language, Audiology, Articulation and Phonological Disorders, and/or Language Disorders focus

Minimum Job Requirements
 

  • Doctorate (PhD) in Speech - Language Pathology
  • Current clinical certification in speech-language pathology from the American Speech – Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
  • At least 3 years of experience in the field of Speech – Language Pathology
  • District of Columbia Licensure or eligibility for a DC License in speech – language pathology;
  • Higher education teaching experience

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
