Brief Description of Duties
 
 

  1. Ensures that the Law School Financial Aid Office policies and procedures are maintained in compliance with Federal regulations.
  2. Works closely with the School of Law Offices of Admission and the Registrar in matters of enrollment, satisfactory academic progress, and related financial aid eligibility issues.
  3. Advises and counsels the Law School student body regarding financial aid matters (Approximately 97% of UDC-DCSL receives financial aid).
  4. Performs financial aid entrance and exit interviews.
  5. Completes loan deferment forms for Law School students.
  6. Maintains student financial aid electronic and hard copy records.
  7. Completes and transmits initial student data, corrections to Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRS), and Student Status Confirmation Records (SSCRs) through the US Department of Education Electronic Data Exchange (EDE).
  8. Prepares the financial aid sections of the American Bar Association (ABA) annual self-study and Site Evaluation Questionnaire, and various other financial aid reports.
  9. Develops and updates financial aid information booklet which is distributed to all Law School financial aid students.
  10. Maintains positive working relationships with loan guarantee agencies, lenders, loan servicers, and the Department of Education.
  11. Awards need-based, named, and institutional scholarship funds in accordance with the School of Law’s published awarding policy.
  12. Processes student borrowers’ Federal and private loans.
  13. Develops on and off campus work-study positions for Law School students.
  14. Awards Federal and institutional work-study funds to individual students.
  15. Serves on University and School of Law Committees and task forces as appointed.
  16. Supervises subordinate staff.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required (Master's degree preferred).  Three years of progressively responsible experience at a supervisory level within a university financial aid program.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
