Description

The University of the District of Columbia is seeking a faculty member to oversee and support the development of the co-requisite remediation program in English and Mathematics. The incumbent will provide support for the new program course design by working collaboratively with faculty in the Mathematics and English departments to refine the implementation of this program. This position will require a faculty member who is able train other faculty to teach in these new course configurations and analyze data related to the results of the program. This is a 9-month, tenure track position.
 
In the co-requisite remediation program, qualified students will take constructed developmental and a college level courses in both English and Mathematics.

Brief Description of Duties

  • Develops appropriate online courses and supplemental modules, observe faculty in day, evening and weekend courses;
  • Participates in curriculum development and revision;
  • Works closely with faculty to model instructional strategies, develop, modify lessons and related assessments;
  • Recommends strategies related to the development and implementation of instructional programs;
  • Assists in the development of assessing student learning outcomes at the course and program levels;
  • Facilitates the development of training sessions that will provide faculty members with strategies that focus on the use of successful, evidence-based instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners such as those used with limited English proficiency or disabilities; and
  • Participates in the district course alignment process.
  • Provides support to faculty by offering supplemental instruction to students.
Required Qualifications
  1. Master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction or a related discipline. Must also meet the minimum job requirements of Assistant or Associate Professor;
  2. A strong background in curriculum development and learning assessment.Prior experience with teacher preparation or education a plus;
  3. A minimum of three years of teaching experience at the community college level;
  4. A minimum of two years as a teacher educator or development specialist; and
  5. Experience with instructional technology.
A candidate for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor shall be required to meet the
following qualifications: 
  • An earned doctorate or the highest appropriate credential in the field of specialization, or experience and achievements comparable to the doctorate;
  • A record of scholarship and professional growth; and
  • At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in an institution of higher education, including three (3) years as an Assistant Professor. Community College experience preferred.
     
    A candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications:
     
  • An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial contract; and
  • At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including two (2) years in an institution of higher education. Community College experience preferred. 

Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience in the discipline is limited or absent. When formal teaching experience is limited or absent, the candidate shall be required to demonstrate verifiable potential for effective teaching.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
