The Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning Division (WDLL) provides a comprehensive range of career services designed to assist students and other stakeholders in reaching their career goals and objectives. The WDLL seeks to educate develop, and assist individuals in successfully meeting the challenges and of the global workforce. Utilizing best practices and technology, the WDLL aspires to function as a major vehicle for increasing job opportunities and workforce readiness for undergraduate, graduate, alumni and other stakeholders.

Brief Description of Duties

The Career Counselor will interview individuals regarding career, personal, and academic goals/objectives, counsel and assess individuals regarding career goals/objectives, advise individuals about education and training opportunities, develop individuals’ career plans as indicated, maintain documentation and records of individual’s progress, prepare written reports as required, represent the WDLL at public relations events as requested, and c
onsult with individuals to develop their resumes.  The Career Counselor will also provide job/life coaching, consult with other stakeholders (employers, alumni, business, community organizations, and etc.) to advance career opportunities for individuals who request career services, develop intern/externships, market career services to the University population, perform additional functions incidental to career services and develop and conduct workshops/trainings.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in counseling, college student personnel services, higher education or a related field is required; Master's degree preferred; two years of experience providing career counseling services including the use of career assessments.

Condition of Employment:  Temporary employment is restricted to a one year appointment and employment may be ended at anytime with or without cause.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Non-Union): This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.

Employment Benefits: Selectee will be eligible for health and life insurance, annual (vacation) and sick leave and will be covered under the University of the District of Columbia’s retirement plan (TIAA-CREF).

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
