The Assistant Dean for Student Services serves a member of the College of Arts and Sciences leadership team and supports all aspects of the student support function of the College. The Assistant Dean reports to the Dean of the College and works collaboratively with the Dean and Associate Dean to promote and enhance the educational experiences of CAS students. The Assistant Dean is an integral component of the College’s managerial team and is expected to have thorough working knowledge of all policy and procedure applicable to all University constituents – students, faculty, staff, and community members, with particular emphasis on application of knowledge to issues of student matriculation and progression toward degree. It is expected that the Assistant Dean will have current and comprehensive knowledge of the academic student services literature and its application in addressing the specific strengths, needs, challenges, opportunities, and aspirations of the College and University. The Assistant Dean is a full-time executive appointee but retains full faculty status and the related responsibilities of teaching, scholarship, and professional service. The prevailing candidate must have a terminal credential, experience, and expertise that align with a full-time, tenure track or tenured permanent faculty appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor in a counseling, psychology, or human development field.

Brief Description of Duties
- Assists the Dean and Associate Dean in developing policy to govern student recruitment, admission, enrollment, transfer in/out, and issues of academic guidance, progression, integrity, grievance, graduation, and honors.
- Manages academic and nonacademic student affairs issues including admission, transfer evaluation, Consortium enrollment, concurrent enrollment, residency rule, advising, graduation audit, grievance, academic misconduct, timely progression toward degree, and academic standing -- probation, suspension, reinstatement.
- Oversees development, update, and revision of all published student documents including, but not limited to, the University Catalog, Academic Affairs Manual, Advising Tracks, and Student Handbook.
- Oversees the development and implementation of College-wide strategic initiatives targeting enhanced student engagement and improved student support services. Works with Associate Dean and department chairs to develop and implement a relevant and dynamic menu of extramural offerings.
- Serves as College liaison to Academic Affairs and University-wide initiatives targeting student learning (deep learning, extramural engagement, service learning,), student involvement in leadership and governance, assessment of student learning outcomes, and evaluation of student satisfaction.
- Supports the Associate Dean in developing academic schedules that reflect and support the College’s student imperatives including, but not limited to, relevance of academic content to student occupational interests and workforce need, comprehensiveness and appropriateness of course delivery options, breadth of scheduling matrices in support of student access, availability of courses and sequences of course offerings to facilitate student progression toward degree.
- Serves as ex officio to Student Affairs, Grievance, and Honors committees of the College.
- Supports College chairs in student recruitment and retention efforts. Creates College-wide agenda for efforts and assists with department and program level specialization of marketing schemes.
- Supports the Dean in identifying student focused partnership and development activities to support study opportunities, travel, conference attendance, and scholarships. Leads efforts to secure institution funding – grants, MOUs, MOAs, etc to support these activities.
- Supports Associate Dean in identifying academic and extramural partnership activity that supports College academic and service responsibilities including, but not limited to, internships, externships, clinical practica, student teaching, service learning, study away and abroad, volunteerism. Interfaces with Career Services office to expand available opportunities for students.
- Serves as College liaison to student support offices including the offices of the Registrar, Recruitment and Admission, Advising, Career Center, Student Affairs, Housing, and Financial Aid.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
The prevailing candidate must have a terminal credential, experience, and expertise that align with a full-time, tenure track or tenured permanent faculty appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor in a counseling, psychology, or human development field.

Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years.
