Brief Description of Duties

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB: The Recruiter is responsible for encouraging prospective students who been identified as the “right fit” for the University to apply and convert into enrolled students.
                                                                                                                                               
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  Adheres to the recruitment plan for the University and executes and manages assigned responsibilities reflected in this plan including primary responsibility for a specific territory and/or population of students
 

  1. Recruits prospective traditional and nontraditional students through a variety of recruitment activities including presentations and visits to regional high schools; attendance at recruitment fairs; meetings and presentations with schools, federal and district government agencies, nonprofit and civic organizations, and other organizations; direct marketing activities; open houses and tours; and other activities as needed; 
  2. Cultivates, establishes, and strengthens relationships with key liaisons within the regional public and charter school systems; government organizations; and major civic organizations and employers in the community;  
  3. Assists with the development of marketing and communication materials to prospective students including the Admissions website, inquiry forms, emails and letters to prospective students and applicants, and brochures and flyers;
  4. Uses data and reports to guide, focus, and evaluate recruitment activities, and to adjust recruitment strategies as needed;
  5. Works with the Banner management information system to enter and extract data related to prospects and applicants; and,  
  6. Responsible for providing the highest levels of customer services to prospective students and applicants, and to representing the University with professionalism, knowledge, energy, and a positive attitude with all internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. One (1) year experience in higher education admissions/recruitment, enrollment strategies, market research, and student information systems.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFSCME local 2087 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
