The incumbent works under the administrative direction of the Director of Business Application Development to help provide high level, first tier or general operational support.
Work is performed independently within the limitations of governing law and regulations.  The incumbent is not required to manage staff.

Brief Description of Duties

  1. Assist DBA’s in project and operational support as directed.
  2. Provide daily operational execution and first-level support of existing UDC Banner processes, jobs and enhancements as needed.
  3. May apply Microsoft Patch Updates, ongoing Microsoft upgrades as directed
  4. May work with and assist DBA’s in applying ongoing Oracle DBMS upgrades and routine SunGard Banner software upgrades and patches as directed.
  5. Support Banner Security Officer by assisting with administration of Banner database security and control database privileges.
  6. Provide first and second level support for other Banner or DBA service requests (via Helpdesk Tickets), including 3rd party products that interface to Banner.
  7. Provide first level monitoring, support and daily operational health checks on several software systems as they interact and interface with Banner.  They include but are not limited to: Banner Job Submission, Luminis, Banner Workflow, Blackboard, Ellucian Recruiter, Blackboard Analytics and others.
  8. Act as a release specialist as directed
  9. Incumbent will need to be available on-call as directed.

Required Qualifications

  1. SunGard Banner ERP experience is highly sought
  2. Knowledge and experience with MS Operating systems and environments
  3. Experience with Oracle in a MS-Windows platform environment.
  4. Knowledge of Java installation and support.
  5. Must have proven experience with Oracle database administration tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Toad, and SQL*Plus
  6. Knowledge of Ellucian Luminis, Workflow,  Pro*C, Pro*COBOL, Oracle Forms a plus
  7. Some experience with Banner security.
  8. Ability to develop, diagnose and review code in Oracle SQL/PLSQL
  9. Must possess demonstrated experience with formal change control practices and procedures and have experience supporting mission critical ERP systems.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
