Description

The Center for Nutrition, Diet and Health Department of the University of the District of Columbia is seeking a dynamic, patron-centered individual with collaboration skills and experiences to support the SNAP- Ed department.  

Number of Vacancies: 1

Employment Status: full time, temporary

Pay Plan, Series & Grade: Grade 9, Steps 7-10

Salary Range: $50,597-$55,355​

Closing Date: October 31, 2014

Location: Van Ness Campus, Washington, DC

Brief Description of Duties

  1. Teaches series of food safety lesson from SNAP-Ed Curricula and other approved  food safety education materials, 2) Teach related hospitality course and recruit hospitality clients to become certified in food handling, 3)Apply group teaching as a major delivery method; 4) Work toward increasing the number of participants enrolled, 5) Use available resources to evaluate progress of participants, 6) Refine techniques of recruiting and working with the groups that will encourage retention and motivation to modify behaviors, 7) Maintain continuous participation by a reasonable number of SNAP-Ed clients.
  2. Coordinates and implements Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) program in food safety throughout the District of Columbia.
  3. Holds and attends meetings and conferences as needed to assist the Project Specialist and volunteers in implementing the SNAP-Ed program and its specific projects.
  4. Cooperates with Project Specialist in developing the team approach to program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  5. Maintains effective working relationship with other extension staff (internally and externally), to provide knowledge of new technology, best practices, and evidence-based information as well as assistance in programming methods and procedures.
  6. Provides leadership for the development and implementation of advisory and program committees.


Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related focus area of the position, granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university.
  2. Three (3) year experience working with individuals who come from low socio-economic backgrounds.
  3. Certified Professional Food Manager.
  4. Certified in Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) or willing to become certified.
  5. A valid driver’s license and vehicle preferred to travel within the city for classes.
  6. A proven commitment to continuous improvement and to proactive, outcomes oriented work in meeting the responsibilities and duties outlined in the position description.

Condition of Employment: 
Temporary employment is restricted to a one year appointment and employment may be ended at anytime with or without cause. 

Collective Bargaining Unit (Non-Union): This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
