Brief Description of Duties :

The University of the District of Columbia is a public land grant institution of higher learning dedicated to providing quality, career focused undergraduate programs that prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to launch, enhance, or change careers.

The University of the District of Columbia Community College (UDC-CC) is a branch campus of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is seeking enthusiastic and qualified part-time instructors interested in teaching. First year seminar is a unique transition course designed to facilitate integration into UDC-CC’s learning community. The aim of this course is to enhance skills for academic success, develop understanding of community college culture, provide individualized academic advising, and foster meaningful educational engagement. The course also encourages active participation in the community college and to post-experience reflection.

Classes will be scheduled to meet once a week Tues-Sat. Classes will be scheduled to start as early as 8:00am and end as late as 8:20pm, T-F. Saturday classes may end as late as 3:30pm.

The hiring decision for part-time faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Management’s sole discretion. Part-time faculty may teach no more than 10 credits per semester.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must teach all assigned classes and hours as determined by the semester course schedule;

  • Plan for instructional activities to include, but not limited to, lecture, class discussion, demonstration labs, and projects;

  • Hold office hours for student conferences one hour per week;

  • Submit in a timely manner and maintain, in an electronic format, accurate records of attendance and grades;

  • Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning; establishing and maintaining classroom control;

  • Attend all meetings, ceremonies and official functions as specified by the Chief Community College Officer and/or Dean of Academic Affairs; and

  • Adhere to the University policies and guidelines in all matters concerning academics, student and staff conduct.

Minimum Job Requirement:

  • Master’s Degree in Social/Behavioral Science or related discipline.

  • At least one year of teaching experience.

  • At least two years of experience in counseling, academic advising, student affairs, social services, child welfare, or career services.

  • Willingness and flexibility to teach course sections as needed.

  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.

  • Ability to teach in a multicultural setting.

  • Must maintain expertise and technical competencies in applicable field of study.

Condition of Employment: Temporary employment may be ended at anytime with or without cause.

Collective Bargaining Unit: Dependent upon certain criteria, this position may be eligible for representation and require payment of union fees through direct payroll deduction.

Employment Benefits: Due to the temporary nature of this appointment, this position is ineligible for benefits.
