Brief Description of Duties

The University of the District of Community College (UDC-CC) is charged with providing a robust, post-secondary experience for residents of the District of Columbia who are enrolled in secondary school.
The Director of College Readiness and Community Outreach will serve under the direct supervision of the UDC-CC Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and will serve as a bridge between pre-college students in the public-school systems in the District of Columbia and Academic Affairs. The College Access and Readiness for Everyone (CARE) in which the CARE Dual Enrollment Program is housed, provides relevant college readiness programming, and related community outreach functions on behalf of the students and this unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction for all programs related to and associated with college readiness, transition from pre-college to college, CARE Dual Enrollment records maintenance and management (a central function for its program sponsors and for UDC-CC).
  • Supports the Office of Academic Affairs of the Community College and the UDC-CC Deans in expanding partnerships and programs of study with public secondary schools across the city.
  • Creates and recommends policies and programs to expand K- 12 / Community College interactions.
  • Supports the Office of Academic Affairs with a range of community outreach functions.
  • Serves as the spokesperson for college readiness programs and activities and represents the Office of Academic Affairs when called upon to do so at meetings and conferences.
  • Manages the preparation of reports and compliance documents for UDC-CC college readiness programming, including dual enrollment.
  • Serves as a primary liaison to the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) on all matters pertaining to dual enrollment.
  • Assists in building partnerships with high schools, GED programs, and community-based organizations to design and implement the infrastructure needed to support a sustainable college readiness program for all District of Columbia students.
  • Assists in developing relevant and innovative pre-college and college curriculum that provides a cohesive blend of academic and job-related skills that will assist in preparing students for college and career.
  • Develops detailed strategies in Academic Affairs related areas that include mid- and long-term objectives that are student-centered, competency based, and data driven and includes measures of performance and measures of effectiveness for evaluation.
  • Assists in convening regular network meetings with all stakeholders, businesses and professional organizations where best practices are shared amongst the college staff and community members.
  • Leads the development of a coherent organization-wide support plan around college readiness and related planning.
  • Manages the coordination of dual enrollment (CARE Dual Enrollment Program).
  • Supervises relevant staff.
  • Participates in relevant meetings and conferences.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education or related field.
  • Minimum of two years professional experience in higher education administration.
  • Previous experience as a counselor/advisor or administrator in either secondary or post-secondary education.
  • Employment experience in both high school and higher education preferred.
  • Ability to use information technology effectively.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
