Brief Description of Duties


The Financial Analyst will assist the Assistant Chief Academic Officer for Academic Operations, Budget and Resources in the University of the District of Columbia , Office of the Chief Academic Officer in the handling of day- to -day financial responsibilities. Incumbent is expected to perform most assigned duties with a high degree of independence, professionalism, initiative, and efficiency, exercising judgment and attention to detail.
                                                          
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administers and oversees day-to-day business-related functions in the Division of Academic Affairs including, but not limited to, budget, accounting, purchasing, and deposits.
  •  Responsible for transforming data into comprehensive reporting for business management decision making.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting of all expenditures and revenue transactions for units that report to the Chief Academic Officer. Ensures that funds are efficiently controlled and that fiduciary reports accurately reflect results of financial operations.
  • Develops and maintains spreadsheets and files. Processes, revises and/or reformats daily, weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports as required for submission to supervisor. Designs and creates charts and graphs to illustrate financial reports.
  • Responsible for operational analysis with the ability to incorporate best practices by assessing, revising, and/or streamlining processes that optimize workflow and meet cross-functional business goals to ensure the successful delivery of service to all stakeholders.
  • Ensures that statutory requirements to control funds in accordance with applicable legislation are properly executed. Advises administrators, faculty and staff on policies and procedures relating to the budget, purchasing, and accounting and meets with them as designated. Maintains budgetary controls on expenditures prior to approving purchase requests.
  • Develops and maintains program level and institutional level performance metrics and presentations on program financial matters for senior management.
  • Coordinates with the Office of Sponsored Program on Academic Affairs on grant activity for inclusion in reports as required. Coordinates with UDC Human Resources on reconciling personnel reports to financial reports, ensuring accuracy.
  • Maintains knowledge and stays abreast of developments in the areas of private grant funds, District of Columbia and federal budget and finance as it relates to the university.
  • Protects fiscal operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by reviewing publications and participating in workshops/seminars as appropriate.
  • Maintains database by entering, verifying, and backing up data as needed.

Minimum Job Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree of Business, Business Administration, Accounting, Budget & Finance or a related field required.
  • At least three years of experience in a comparable position required.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • Intermediate or better knowledge of MS Excel. Intermediate knowledge is defined as familiarity and competency in PivotTable construction and manipulation, data validation, and more advanced formula creation (IF-THEN, TRANSPOSE, VLOOKUP, etc.).

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.


Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.


Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation. The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia. The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
