Brief Description of Duties

Adjunct Nursing Faculty is responsible for developing, teaching and evaluating online courses in UDC’s accredited RN to BSN program. The incumbent will work closely with nursing faculty in implementing course content, including the appropriate use of classroom technology to assess student’s mastery of the content. The incumbent must be able to work in a fast paced course environment on a rotational and ongoing six (6) weeks program. The incumbent reports directly to the Program Director and will work closely and cooperatively with the Dean, Associate Dean, other nursing faculty and College Staff. The incumbent works well under pressure of deadlines and be familiar with or become familiar with the regulations, polices and procedures as established by the University, District of Columbia Government, Accreditation Commission For Education in Nursing (ACEN) nursing accrediting agency, and other professional nursing standards of practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, teaches, and evaluates agreed-upon online courses in the RN-BSN Program.
  • Serves as the Adjunct Faculty of record for the assigned online courses.
  • Evaluates student achievement in meeting clinical competencies and integration of theory related to nursing knowledge and practice.
  • Works with faculty to assess and develop instructional needs of students.
  • Submits attendance verification, mid-term and final grades according to University policy and timelines.
  • Submits student learning outcomes assessment and course mapping within one week of course completion.
  • Provides input into the Systematic Plan of Evaluation.
  • Attends the College and University bi-annual professional development.

Minimum Job Requirement

  • Must possess or be eligible for licensure with an active and unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the District of Columbia.
  • Master’s of Sciences in Nursing (MSN) Degree, required.
  • Three years of teaching experience (one to three years must be in online teaching).
  • Previous teaching experience in an accredited Nursing Program required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students of various ages, abilities, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Certification in online teaching, preferred.

Condition of Employment: Temporary employment may be ended at anytime with or without cause.

Collective Bargaining Unit: Dependent upon certain criteria, this position may be eligible for representation and require payment of union fees through direct payroll deduction.
