Brief Description of Duties 



The candidate will provide leadership and support for students, faculty in educational and research laboratories and in the machine shop in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS). Conducting a variety of tasks in the day-to-day operations of the laboratories and shop, assisting in teaching, and contributing expertise in strategic planning, procurement, and maintenance, s/he will provide technical support for academic and teaching activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • .Assists with the daily supervision of the activities in SEAS laboratories and is responsible for maintaining the equipment and supplies and safety of operationProvides support to the faculty and students in all SEAS laboratories.
  • Provides supervision and training to student workers, co-workers, and teaching assistants to deliver reliable and technically up to date laboratory experiences.
  • Supervises and provides manufacturing and prototyping support for students' design projects, student chapter competitions, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
  • Serves as point of contact, expertise, and organization for machine-shop operations, machining equipment, advanced manufacturing, and rapid prototyping.
  • Maintains hardware in the laboratories.
  • Assist students with lab setup and ensure that service to students is available during the scheduled time of operation.
  • Develops and conducts hands-on activities to support student-recruitment and outreach activities and workshops, including generation of promotional material.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in SEAS. 

Minimum Job Requirements
 

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in engineering (e.g., mechanical, civil, related field) is preferred but not required, and may be substituted with equivalent practical and/or job experience with competency and/or certifications in machining operations and machine-shop equipment. For example, some combination of power tools, CNC milling, 3D printing, advanced manufacturing, rapid prototyping, laser cutting, materials testing and/or equipment safety.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Non-Union): This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.

Employment Benefits: Selectee will be eligible for health insurance and annual (vacation) and sick leave only. Part-time selectee will be eligible for annual (vacation) and sick leave on a pro-rated basis.
