Brief Description of Duties

The Project Manager provides advanced project management and organizational support to the Dean’s Office by developing, leading, implementing and evaluating projects and coordinating the Dean’s executive functions.  

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates Executive projects for the Dean, proactively researching and determining available resource requirements and utilizing appropriate technologies/methodologies to help administratively support project completion.
  • Provides support in the research, collection, and compilation of accurate internal and external information.
  • Directs and manages the functions and responsibilities of the Dean's Office including confidential correspondence, event management, and planning. Manage the Dean's communication flow, schedule, and travel.
  • Completes multiple tasks including timely processing of documents, development of PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Responsible for general office and recording keeping; arrangement of meeting and meeting-related logistics; securing and stocking of office supplies and equipment.
  • Disseminates information to students, faculty, administrators, and the community at large on matters regarding the College’s educational programs and/or university policies, procedures, and activities.
  • Trains and assists with evaluating office support student workers as needed.
  • Handles office purchasing, maintains the office purchase card, orders supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Supports preparation of various monthly, quarterly, and annual reports including presentation development and dissemination.
  • Types a variety of correspondence, minutes of various meetings, documents, and reports ensuring correct grammar, spelling, and style

  • Command of professional protocol; ability to develop and sustain productive, mutually respectful, and collaborative interpersonal working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Strong oral communication skills in interfacing effectively and diplomatically, both in person and over the telephone; clear communication; strong professional presence.
  • Knowledge of the University's policies and procedures; ability to work effectively with coworkers, students, and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner, actively supporting the University mission and the Dean's vision.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s preferred.
  • At least three years of related experience with project management exposure or support, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability in creating, developing, maintaining, and evaluating complex projects, preferably in an academic setting.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.


Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.


Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
