Brief Description of Duties

Incumbent functions as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the University of the District of Columbia and as such performs the following duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Works with the head coach to develop implement and manage the budget for the program.
  2. Prepares and finalizes travel arrangements for the program according to departmental policies and guidelines.
  3. Assists in making assignments and providing supervision and direction to the team manager and volunteer assistant coaches.
  4. Assists in organizing and conducting practice sessions.
  5. Assists in the recruitment of student athletes.
  6. Orders equipment as needed.
  7. Assists in scheduling of sport events.
  8. Recommends athletes for awards to head coach.
  9. Furnishes a team roster to the administrative assistant, compliance coordinator and sports information director for eligibility, administrative and promotions clarification when directed.
  10. Assists in coordination of team pictures and news releases with the Sports Information Director.
  11. Assists in ensuring appropriate conduct of athletes on trips.
  12. Assists in academic study session and progress report monitoring.
  13. Assist in the planning and coordination of team building activities, fundraising initiatives and departmental activities and events.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  •      Bachelor of Science degree required.
  •      Minimum of 1 year of coaching experience.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: The Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988, D.C. Law 7-203, created a system in which provides that any applicant for employment in the Career or Educational Services who is a bona fide resident of the District of Columbia may claim a residency reference at the time of application. An applicant selected for an appointment based on District residency will be required to submit no less than eight (8) proofs of bona fide District residency
on or before the effective date of the appointment. Bona fide District residency must be maintained from the date of appointment to the position for seven (7) consecutive years. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the (7) year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
