Brief Description of Duties

The Registrar is responsible for management and operation of the Registrar’s Office, performing a variety of administrative duties, including administering the registration process, advising law students, and processing grades.
The incumbent reports directly to the Associate Dean of Academics and has responsibility for performing the following specific duties:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Advises law students, regarding registration, grades, enrollment eligibility, academic probation, dismissal, and graduation.
  • Establishes policies, procedures, and protocol of the day-to-day operation of the Registrar’s office.
  • Responds to requests for information from law students, faculty, employees, and the general public by following established policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for processing and disseminating law students’ grades, correspondence pertaining to grades and grade reports, including the issuance of official transcripts for law students and alumni.
  • Works with the Assistant Dean of Academic Administration in preparing memoranda, correspondence, annual and other reports relating to demographics, enrollment and attrition statistics as required by the American Bar Association, the University, and the Dean.
  • Certifies applicants for various state bar examinations according to each state’s specific rules, guidelines, and deadlines.
  • Certifies students for graduation.
  • Administers and maintains database programs to obtain information, produce class lists and grade sheet forms, calculate grade point averages, and verify enrollment.
  • Works with the Assistant Dean of Administration in designing and disseminating registration packets for law students each term.
  • Assists the Assistant Dean of Academic Administration regarding course and room scheduling.
  • Participates as the Law School representative at professional meetings involving registrar administration and participates in continuing education.
  • Works with the University and Law School committees and task forces as appointed.
  • Supervises subordinate staff.
  • Determines program staffing needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Job Requirements
 

  • An earned bachelor’s degree
  • An earned master’s degree is preferred but not required
  • At least 3years of Registrar experience a must
  • Good communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Broad knowledge of accounting principles
  • Demonstrated professional competence in the relevant field and the potential for continued professional growth; and
  • At least three years of relevant experience, preferably at an accredited law school.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.

Drug-Free Workplace: Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.

Background Investigation: Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.  The determination of a "satisfactory background investigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.  The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
