Brief Description of Duties


The Data and Assessment Manager of the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) of the University of the District of Columbia, reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Programs and Administration and is responsible for managing the College’s data and assessment needs to ensure the ongoing assessment of academic programs, landgrant programs, and research activities in the college. The incumbent oversees data collection; maintains assessment and program evaluation databases; prepares reports and other communication to highlight assessment results; and manages assessment processes including collection, preparation, analysis, and reporting of data. The Data and Assessment Manager collaborates closely with the academic and landgrant staff in CAUSES to ensure that program outcomes and impacts are captured and communicated accurately and effectively. The incumbent will work closely and cooperatively with the with the Dean of CAUSES, the Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Landgrant Center Directors, must be a team player, be creative, work effectively and efficiently, and perform duties with independence, initiative, and reliability, work well under the pressure of deadlines and be familiar with (or become familiar with) the regulations, policies and procedures established by USDA, District Agencies, and other program sponsors, and collaborators of CAUSES.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains assessment and evaluation databases relating to the University’s landgrant research, community outreach and academic programs in CAUSES.
  • Works closely with Landgrant Center directors and academic department chairs in facilitating requests for data and reports.
  • Supervises the Assessment Team, assigning work and activities, and ensuring that goals and objectives of the unit are met.
  • Prepares and administers program assessment surveys, statistical data and reports to identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Works with the Marketing and Communications Manager to assist in the preparation of reports to internal and external constituencies.
  • Identifies suitable outcomes and impact measures and implements the assessment and data management process for the landgrant and academic program activities in collaboration with the Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and Landgrant Center Directors of CAUSES.
  • Coordinates and conducts on-site visits of landgrant programs to evaluate program effectiveness and impact.
  • Ensures the necessary data collection, input, and analysis for a timely submission of the Annual Report and Plan of Work as required by the USDA NIFA.
  • Assist the Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Climate Initiatives and the Associate Dean for Landgrant Programs with formative evaluation assessments of research, community outreach, and academic programs
  • Identifies problem areas, with regards to the assessment activities of the college and recommends solution and strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Plans and coordinates activities relating to the College’s responsibilities to university wide assessment activities, sponsoring agencies, client, and collaborators.
  • Lead occasional professional development activities to ensure effective and reliable program outcomes and impacts assessment.
  • Collaborates with faculty and landgrant project specialists in the planning and implementation of program assessment and quality outcomes
Other Duties
  • Works effectively and collaboratively with Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Landgrant Center Directors and other faculty and staff within the college and the University as required by specific projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including special assignments related to the areas of responsibility as well as the needs of the college.
 

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Business Administration, Public Administration or a field related to the responsibilities of CAUSES and its academic and land-grant programs.
  • Demonstrated record of successful program assessment, data management, and project management.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in data management and assessment, along with three years of progressive experience in managing staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to develop written material that is free of grammatical errors and with limited need for editorial oversight.

Visa Sponsorship: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Residency Preference: A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points. If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
